The 'transition' process?

The steering group (See step 1 below) that set up Transitions in the Forest decided to follow the general template of other towns and areas who wish to address the same concerns. This is contained in the document called the 'Transition Initiatives Primer,' (external link), the most current version of which is available through this link.

The core of the process is contained in its '12 key steps', which are:

  1. Set up a steering group and design its demise from the outset
  2. Awareness raising
  3. Lay the foundations
  4. Organise a great unleashing
  5. Form sub groups
  6. Use open space
  7. Develop visible practical manifestations of the project
  8. Facilitate the great reskilling
  9. Build a bridge to local government
  10. Honour the elders
  11. Let it go where it wants to go ...
  12. Create an energy descent plan.

These steps do not necessarily follow each other chronologically. No one is forcing any one to follow them at all. It's a tentative map to uncharted territory: see point 11 above. (If you want to get some information on any step click the list to see what the 'primer' says of them.)
The core group which has taken over the project has agreed to continue in the same general direction, with more emphasis on projects that can make an immediate contribution to the community...
